Hot dogs, cotton candy, and a lot of old-fashioned fun for the whole family… what’s not to love about the DC State Fair? You can compete in hula hoop, limbo, or watermelon seed spitting contests, or you can stick to the more traditional state fair competitions by entering your baked goods, jams, jellies, or home-made pickles to be judged. There’s also a pet parade and pet costume contest, as well as plenty of arts and education booths for kids (young children will enjoy finger painting, while older kids might have fun learning about urban fruit trees or learning country western line dancing). Throughout the day everyone will enjoy browsing the vendor booths and listening to live musical performances by artists like Olivia Mancini, Michelle Blackwell, School of Rock, and Coexist Music Group.
This year the fair is planned for Sunday, September 8, at Gateway DC on St. Elizabeths East Campus. Gates open at 11 am, and there’ll be plenty to do all day long.
